Rich Baich is Wells Fargo’s chief information security officer. In this role, he oversees information security strategy and governance, identity and access management, security engineering, line-of-business engagement, and cyber defense and monitoring.
Prior to joining Wells Fargo in 2012, Rich was a principal at Deloitte & Touche, where he led the Global Cyber Threat and Vulnerability Management practice. Rich’s other security leadership roles include serving as naval Information Warfare Officer for the National Security Agency, senior director for professional services at Network Associates (now McAfee), and, after 9/11, special assistant to the deputy director for the National Infrastructure Protection Center at the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Rich retired after more than twenty years of military service.
In 2005, Rich authored Winning as a CISO, a leadership sourcebook for security executives. In 2015, Rich authored a chapter on collaboration and communication between technical and nontechnical staff and executives in Navigating the Digital Age: The Definitive Cybersecurity Guide for Directors and Officers.
Rich received the “Information Security Executive of the Year in Georgia” award in 2004 for his security achievements and pioneering leadership. He served as chair for the Financial Services Sector Coordinating Council from 2016 to 2018 as well as an advisor for the 44th and 45th President’s Commissions on Cybersecurity. In 2018, he was appointed as a member of the National Infrastructure Advisory Council by the President of the United States. He also serves on the Strategic Advisory Board of the International Consortium of Minority Cybersecurity Professionals.
Rich holds an MBA and a master of science degree in management from the University of Maryland University College, as well as a bachelor of science degree from the United States Naval Academy. Rich is also a Joint Forces Staff College and Naval War College graduate. He qualified as a Cryptologist and an Information Warfare Officer while holding numerous security industry certifications.
